Twitterlamp (2008)

Created soon after Twitter launched its API, Twitterlamp was an experiment in ambient information awareness. A translucent globe would sit on a user’s desk glowing different colours depending on the user’s Twitter activity. The red, green, and blue colour channels indicated levels of direct messages, mentions, and stream activity. A user would sub- or semi-consciously receive information about their Twitter activity without actively checking in or receiving intrusive alerts.
