Kate Pullinger’s 2013 novel Landing Gear was released with an accompanying API (Application Programming Interface). It allowed developers to write code that could use the text of the book in various ways. At a hackathon for the launch of the API and as part of the Books and Browsers conference, I created a Twitter bot that tweets out direct quotes from characters in the book and any responses that Twitter users make are then recorded and stored as annotations to the text of the book for later API users to explore. Kate mentioned the bot in her recap of the hackathon on her blog.
